DOWNLOAD DUNCE

I MAXED OUT MY MUM'S DOWNLOAD LIMIT AGAIN/

no im not some 14 year old wanking away to the internet and filling up my cookies with little japanese girls, i've been staying here whilst 'resting' as im ill-ish. cant download any music cause i found this movie ive been looking for for about 10 years and got it straight away off pirate bay without considering it would fuck up the rest of my stay boo-hoo. hence i've only been listening to old stuff, which is kind of the best stuff. here are some bands you should know, and if you dont, then you know shit about music and should check them all out.

The Vaselines
The Beat Happening
The Shaggs
Royal Trux
The Moldy Peaches
The Raincoats
Melt Banana

I've also really been enjoying that Taylor Swift single about two middle class high school brats who think they're just like Romeo and Juliet, I'm guessing in reality the comparison only goes as far as underage sex and hateful families, but alas, i like it.

I guess that makes me a total fag with shit music taste but i really can't help it.

GOD MOVES IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS

Hello Internet-land.

I am poorly in the head, hence no blogging. Right now I am not listening to music, as i actually feel so wretched i can't really handle loud noises. I have, however, been enjoying the following...

-primark's summer dresses. got a couple for my birthday and was mega surprised to love them.

-st ives swiss formula apricot radiance cleanser - absolutely gorgeous.

-cyber candy

-bubbles. the soapy kind in a bottle.

-beirut (ok so i listened to a tiny bit of music) the lon gisland ep and elephant gun have been helping soothe my brain

-plaits. all over my head. all different kinds. this is what boredom does.

I don't know when i'll be better but if i miss the Blank Dogs album release i'll be mega upset with myself. I'm going to sleep now cause the pc is hurting my eyes. at TEN THIRTY at night. that is not normal.

ONE TO WATCH

DEFINITELY keep an eye on The Mayfair Set. They are made up of Dum Dum Girls and Blank Dogs (both of which are solo projects doncha know). They say solo artists are the ones who need total control over their project, a one man band of egotism if you will, but listen to any of The Mayfair Set's tracks and I'm sure you'll agree, this is a meeting of minds in the best possible sense.

SCOTCH ON THE ROCKS

What is more British than a scotch egg?

When Shigeru Ishihara’s studies saw him transported from his Tokyo home to the kitsch seaside naughtiness of Brighton, he discovered a world where sick means great, weird is wonderful, and wrong made everything right.

Shige started making music in 2003. Producing electronic beats with his Game Boy, he built up a loyal fan base and, with influential breakcore artist Shitmat, spearheaded what we would come to call ‘wrong music’. What started as a bastardized genre combining gabber, breakcore, 8bit, and noise, became a, now legendary, club night and record label. Before long DJ Scotch Egg had become a one-man phenomenon.

But just as it seemed Shige and his electronic orchestra of 50 Game Boys had finally become accepted by fans and critics alike, his student visa ran out and he was called to return to Tokyo and leave Brighton, Wrong Music, and his fans behind.

Luckily, his diehard online followers created savethescotchegg.co.uk, and set up an online petition against his deportation. They argued Shige’s contribution to his community in Brighton was so positive he should be allowed to stay in the country. The response was so massive he was eventually granted British citizenship, and so the legend of DJ Scotch Egg was cemented.

Shige is far from satisfied though, and continues to push himself constantly. He released his fourth album, Drumized, last year, and is now working on his side project Drum Eyes. He has recently toured with

Rhode Island giants Lightning Bolt, which will undoubtedly mean more publicity for the Wrong Music brand stateside.  Shige says, “There is no musical scene like Rhode Island in Britain, people have a simpler vibe in the UK. Some places here are very alternative and people get together just to hang out or make stuff or whatever and that different music scene grows out of that”.

On his homeland he says, “Japan has a very good music scene. Osaka would be my favourite place as so many good musicians live there and it’s very friendly.” Shige found Brighton to be his spiritual home though, and it was here he has created and released the bulk of his work. “I always liked British music anyway, so it is greatly inspirational to actually live here now and feel what's happening.” Claiming he is just one of many international artists creating groundbreaking music in the UK, Shige recommends, “Dokkebi Q for kinda dub step” and “Bo Ningen for great psychedelic rock music.” When asked, then, if he thinks people come to Britain to further themselves creatively, he replies, “Definitely. It’s one of the best countries for music, art and fashion.”

Shige believes England is so creatively rich because people here are open minded, “A wider variety of people accept more unusual culture here! It is great for example that John Peel (and other cool radio DJs) exist to help underground culture on international radio. In Japan there is no stuff like that.”

YOO HOO

I'VE GOT ATARI TEENAGE RIOT TIX !

JEALOUS?

NEW METRIC LEAKED! ! !

GET IT HERE

THECOCKNBULLKID

not that amazing, but a lot better than a lot of indie/electro at the moment.

the monotonous musicality is predictable but her lyrics are really honest and relatable. i think her songs could easily become something you HAVE to listen to again before going to sleep. or make your night when you hear them played at a a club. YEAH i think i like her. PLUS she says the sugababes were never the same after Mutya left which is an intelligent view of the world to have.

Check her tunes out here.

TIDBITS

FUCKED UP are releasing the next installment of their singles released through Matador based on the astrological cycle. Year Of The Rat is due for release March 23rd. COOL.

Rolo Tomassi are releasing a FREE ep to anyone who pre-orders tickets for their new tour (did they ever stop?) through their myspace.

Faith No More are re-forming to play DOWNLOAD ! How much do you wanna go but can't afford tickets?! Yeah me too. They'll be joined by Skipknot, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit, and a load of other bands you wouldnt wanna get caught in the pit for.

DORIAN GAY

Saw a gig last night in Norwich @The Queen Elizabeth.

Dorian Gay are a brand new 4-piece hardcore act formed out of UEA students and a tight drummer they found locally. I have to say, my punk leanings never went as far as hardcore and I was slightly concerned the whole thing would be an exercise in who could do the best Gallows impression. As far as this new wave of hardcore bands and noise punk brats goes, I doubt I'm the first person to ask every publication calling it 'the second coming' if they've actually put down The Guardian and listened to the music, cause it fucking sucks. BUT the band looked good and I had nothing better to do.

Dorian Gay had some catchy songs which went down a treat with the crowd, who had looked ready to start muttering about wannabes and trendy uni kids at the barely-legal quintet. Their set was short but punchy, they looked enthusiastic but managed to keep the first-gig goofy faces at bay. The audience enjoyed the band so much infact, that they called for the band to play something else until they shyly confessed they didn't have any more tracks, and offered a Black Flag cover which the crowd lapped up like punk puppies.

I doubt Dorian Gay are gonna have any troubles getting a second gig, and will hopefully manage to get a foothold in the punk scene before anyone notices their arty haircuts and Smiths t-shirts.

The next band were so bad, I went to the toilets and made a phone call to a friend I didn't need to speak to.
